A 98-Year-Old Angel

During the holiday season, you may hear the saying that it’s better to give than receive. I couldn’t agree more. By giving, my husband Ron and I have received a huge blessing. For nearly three years, we have gotten to be a part of Mabel Moses’ life, and she has been a part of ours.

Mabel, who lives in Seminole County, is 98 years old and will be 99 in February. She came into our lives in a very random way.

I am a marriage and family therapist by profession. A few years ago, I realized that I wanted to help people in different ways. I explored a lot of options and decided to volunteer with Community Care for the Elderly, a wonderful organization that (after training, fingerprinting and intensive background checks) allows volunteers to visit with the elderly who are trying to keep their independence and live on their own.

I asked Ron if he would volunteer with me. I felt doing this together would enrich our relationship. He graciously agreed, and soon after we were introduced to Mabel. Read More
